IS Uncapped ADSL
IS’ Uncapped product offerings are currently available in Basic and Xpress variations. They have been designed for both the moderate and high-end users, respectively.
They offer a unique management option, allowing them to function on any line speed. This means that the Peak Information Rate (PIR) will be managed according to the product type, allowing for improved flexibility for the subscriber.
Maintaining a fair service for all is managed by our adaptive rolling 10 day policy and not a monthly limit. Each product set is exclusively managed, allowing for a fair service for all rather than allowing heavy users the ability to degrade the service for the majority.
The services are offered in three line speeds; 384, 512 and 1024 Kbps and carry a threshold of 5, 10 and 20 GB respectively. Should a product threshold be exceeded then the PIR for the respective service will be halved from 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. during weekdays. For the period outside of this time zone, the PIR will be restored to full line speed and will be subject to moderation based on an 80% average clause. Should usage remain less than 80% of the average user for each product, the service will remain unaffected. Should individual usage exceed 80% of the average user for each product, then first level of moderation will be implemented, moving the service to a Shaped service.
Frequently Asked Questions:
(Q) How does the Xpress product moderation work? (A) Each service is allocated a threshold for a 10 day rolling window. They are not governed by month end limits and the service will never be capped or disconnected. If a customer reaches his 10 day threshold before the 10th day, his PIR will be halved during specific hours (example - 512 Kbps will be dropped to 256 Kbps). However, if consumption is reduced, PIR will be restored.

(Q) The service is initially Unshaped and when the usage exceeds 80% of the average, the service will be Shaped? What is the average/how is this measured? (A) By average we take the usage from all the users in the service. Then we manage the lower/higher of the average in this service.
Example: If there are 10 users in a service and the combined traffic for the last 10 days is 1000 GB, hence an average of 100 GB. However, three users did over 100 GB and 1 user did 90 GB. The other six users did under 60 GB. With the average set at 80%, then the average in this case is 80 GB. So the 3 users that did over 100 gigs and the 1 user who did 90 gigs in this scenario will have their relative priority to file sharing throttled until they fall into the 20% of high end users. Checks on usage will be done hourly and will be based on a rolling 10 days usage and adjusted accordingly.

((Q) What are two concurrent connections with PIR sharing?
(A) It is allowing two concurrent connections with the same username sessions from different location, with the PIR being divided between the two sites. Any further connection attempts will be denied.
Example: If the PIR is 512 Kbps on the current connection and the service is within normal limits based current usage. The subscriber then connects from a further location the PIR will be divided into two, so each connection would receive 256 Kbps at each location.

Some Important Definitions:
Semi-Shaped: All P2P type traffic will be throttled from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Breakage: Is the portion of unused bandwidth that a subscriber is provided against what was used. Example: Subscriber has 5 GB account and only uses 3 GB. The breakage is 2 GB paid for but not used.
Unshaped: All protocols receive equal priority, which means that whatever you do on the internet will happen at the same speed.
Dual rates: Traffic is monitored and the usage is separated between peak and off peak times and billed accordingly.
Own authentication: IS will pass authentication requests on to clients own managed radius servers.
PIR: Peak Information Rate is the maximum line speed.
